On Sunday, January 19th, we will conduct our next bird walk at 8 AM. The location will be Mason Farm Biological Preserve in Chapel Hill, located behind the Finley Golf Course at 500 Finley Golf Course Rd., Chapel Hill.
To get there, turn into the entrance to the Finley Golf Course and drive around the back of the clubhouse to the parking lot. Drive through the parking lot and continue onto a paved road at the back corner of the lot. Follow this road about 100 feet (just past the practice putting green) until you come to a fork in the road and take the right-hand fork onto a gravel road. Go about 0.5 miles until you come to a junction. Turn right to cross a concrete low water crossing across Morgan Creek. Go over the low water crossing and up the embankment to meet in the parking lot. Heavy rains prior to the event may make the low water crossing impassible and result in a location change.
These outings are sponsored by the Chapel Hill Bird Club, in coordination with the New Hope Bird Alliance. Visitors are welcome, you aren't required to be a club member.
Outings usually last 2-3 hours. No reservations or sign-up needed. If there is a large turnout for any particular outing, we may split into two groups. We do recommend carpooling for families or friend pods; while we love pets, there is a 'no-pet' policy for bird outings. New birders and birders of all skill levels are welcome.
Please wear long pants, socks, and sturdy shoes (ticks and chiggers may be present). Sun and bug protection are also recommended. Bring snacks and water if you like. Heavy rain will result in cancellation.
