Chapel Hill Bird Club By-Laws

The official duties of both elected and appointed officers are outlined below:

President
to preside over all meetings and to plan the programs for the regular meetings
to call special meetings as needed
to collaborate with the Bulletin Managing Editor in matters concerning the official meetings
to appoint all chairmen and supervisors and to collaborate with these appointees in the coordination of club activities (i.e., Bulletin Managing Editor, Bird Count Supervisor/Compiler, Field Trip Chairman, Potluck Chairman, Publicity Chairman)
to delegate the above responsibilities if the need arises
Vice-presidents - Chapel Hill area and Durham area
to collaborate and function as requested by the President
to arrange programs for the monthly meetings
Treasurer
to pay all authorized bills as submitted
to submit to the members and the official records of the club an annual financial report and a summary at the monthly meetings
to insure that the club's tax-exempt status is maintained by filing the appropriate information with the IRS and the U. S. Post Office
to issue dues notices and collect dues
to maintain membership list
Secretary
to record the minutes of the regular meetings in a bound notebook
to insure that the proper voting procedures are followed
to be responsible for the official records of the CHBC
to summarize the preceding and coming monthly meetings for the Bulletin Managing Editor

Appointed Officials and their Duties1

Bird Count Supervisor/Compiler
to assign bird count territories
to keep records of the Christmas and Spring Bird Counts
to report the tallied results of the counts directly to the regional compiler and the CHBC Managing Editor
Field Trip Chairman
to establish weekly field trips
the field trips will be announced in the CHBC Bulletin
to plan field trips in conjunction with other clubs and organization
to procure birding experts if possible to lead field trips
to summarize the weekly field trips for the Bulletin
Bulletin Managing Editor
to prepare, arrange publication, and distribute the Monthly Bulletin
to collaborate with the officers of the club on matters concerning official business for publication in the Monthly Bulletin
to publish and deliver the Monthly Bulletin to the U. S. Post Office for mailing on or before the 20th of each month
Potluck Supper Chairman
to organize the time and place of the monthly summer potluck suppers
to inform the Bulletin Managing Editor of such planned events
Publicity Chairman
to submit notices of special meetings, special speakers, and other such events to the local newspapers
to submit items to the news media as required by the activities of the club.
